IDD Parenting Support Services

  • Goal is to assist people who are or will be parents in developing appropriate parenting skills.
  • Parents will receive training that is individualized
  • Training will focus on the health and welfare and developmental needs of their child, as well as building necessary parenting skills
  • Coaching parents on how to provide care to their newborn
  • Empower positive parenting skills
  • Lactation support

Place of Service Delivery

  • Provided in the person’s home
  • Variety of community-based settings, based upon the person’s needs and choices

Duration of Services Approved by DDS

  • Support is available from the first trimester until the eligible participant’s child transitions from high school

Plan of Care

Staff will Coach parent on:

  • Feeding newborn
  • Changing diapers and grooming of newborn
  • Sterilizing feeding bottles if needed
  • Lactation coaching/ supervision
  • Pumping/Breastmilk storage
  • Bathing Newborn and selecting appropriate clothes
  • Laundry/sorting of clothes
  • Organizing newborn’s closet
  • Fostering bonding between mother/baby
  • Includes kids up to school age, (or less than 15years old)
