IDD Parenting Support Services
- Goal is to assist people who are or will be parents in developing appropriate parenting skills.
- Parents will receive training that is individualized
- Training will focus on the health and welfare and developmental needs of their child, as well as building necessary parenting skills
- Coaching parents on how to provide care to their newborn
- Empower positive parenting skills
- Lactation support
Place of Service Delivery
- Provided in the person’s home
- Variety of community-based settings, based upon the person’s needs and choices
Duration of Services Approved by DDS
- Support is available from the first trimester until the eligible participant’s child transitions from high school
Plan of Care
Staff will Coach parent on:
- Feeding newborn
- Changing diapers and grooming of newborn
- Sterilizing feeding bottles if needed
- Lactation coaching/ supervision
- Pumping/Breastmilk storage
- Bathing Newborn and selecting appropriate clothes
- Laundry/sorting of clothes
- Organizing newborn’s closet
- Fostering bonding between mother/baby
- Includes kids up to school age, (or less than 15years old)
